How to use this page

This page presents the final status of the obsolete second pass of the NOvA first analysis production.

First analysis processing was started after the April 2015 collaboration meeting. However early on a bug in calibrator was spotted which meant that all reconstruction files had to be remade. This ended the first pass of first analysis dataset making, a page summarising the final state of that can be found here.

Processing was then restarted from the appropriate tiers, however later on multiple bugs were discovered that meant that this pass had also to be abandoned. There were a number of reasons for this decision being made including:

  • Discrepancies being found in both electron neutrino PIDs LID and LEM meaning these had to be re-run. That is PID and LEM stages both needed re-doing.
  • The muon neutrino analysis suffering from a bug in the CAFMaker, NumuEnergy, CosRej and QePId modules. These all independently search through the vector of ReMId information and independently determine what is the best track. However it turned out that they could get different answers, especially if there were two tracks in a slice with the same ReMId value. As we ran all four affected modules at the mix/CAF step in this pass that could mean that we don't need to re-run PID.
  • A 3.6% offset in the absolute calibration in the near detector was observed between data and MC. A fudge factor was put into the ND data calibration factors to account for this and tagged as v7.1. ND data processing needed to be restarted from daq files to pick this up.

This page represents a snapshot of the status of production after these were discovered but before files started to be remade. This page is preserved for posterity. The current first analysis page can be found here.

These datasets were not completed so do not represent a complete set of data, Monte Carlo or data-tiers.

Older datasets can be found on the archives page. That page describes all of the official datasets produced since October 2014 that are not part of the first analysis.

All datasets should be used in conjunction with knowledge of the software release that was used to make them. This information is available here. The old redmine based version of this page can be viewed here, however this page is out of date and is not being maintained.

FD data NuMI n/a Raw2root complete, reconstruction, LEM and CAF are ongoing
Cosmics n/a Complete. The calibration files have been produced in the release S15-02-09, based off of artdaq files processed with an older release than used for the NuMI files above: S14-08-19. A subset of pre-shutdown files have also been processed including only subruns 0 to 10, these files were produced based on artdaq files produced in a mix of releases.
FD beam MC Real runs n/a Complete.
FD cosmic MC Real runs (pre-shutdown) n/a Complete. The calibration files have been produced in the release S15-02-09.
Full 14DB detector n/a Complete. The calibration files have been produced in the release S15-02-09.

ND NuMI data Alternative geometry n/a Complete. This sample consists of the same data as the core ND NuMI data sample. However this sample has been reconstructed with a more modern geometry file which is based off of the most recent survey data.
ND cosmic MC Modern simulation n/a This ND cosmic sample has been simulated in the same release as the core analysis files provided for first analysis FA14-10-03x.a. This is unlike the ND cosmic files used for the computation of calibration constants described in the ND cosmics page , which were simulated in FA14-10-03 as were all the calibration samples.
FD cosmic MC Modern simulation n/a This FD cosmic sample has been simulated in the same release as the core analysis files provided for first analysis FA14-10-03x.a. This is unlike the FD cosmic files used for the computation of calibration constants described in the FD cosmics page , which were simulated in FA14-10-03 as were all the calibration samples.
FD genie MC "Ideal" detector n/a The FD genie MC sample is made with the full 14DB detector. This sample is intended for future sensitivity studies and as such does not need to reflect the running conditions used to collect the first-analysis dataset.

Projections of the resources required to produce these samples are shown here. These are based off of information accrued during the production tests along with some information entered by hand due to missing or incomplete test results.
